Start Up Marketeer was born in January 2017 when Emilie Heaney's children were young and she started meeting lots of entrepreneurs at baby groups and soft plays who were in desperate need of marketing advice to help them reach the next stage of their business plan. It transpires that there are a lot of small business owners who need a marketing department but can't afford one in-house, and that's where Start Up Marketeer come to the rescue!

We offer a no-nonsense approach to digital marketing with none of the complicated jargon that other marketing agencies may use to try and sell their services. We take time to get to know your business inside and out so that we can align our goals with your own and help you achieve your grand plans.
Our fees are deliberately low to help keep marketing advice accessible for start-ups and small businesses that may not have the budget to hire a full time marketing manager and team. But our service standards are extremely high and we pride ourselves on the quality of our advice and the work that we do.

I have worked for various SME’s including Sofa.com when it was still in its infancy and an exciting online IFA that specialised in working with Contractors which I helped grow to create a market leading brand. Since 2015 I have been freelancing for a wide range of businesses from recruitment consultants to sustainable product designers so whatever your business idea, I’m confident that I can help you nurture and grow your business with my unique brand of digital marketing.

I joined Start Up Marketeer in 2019 after moving to Haslemere from London. I'm responsible for social media management and community engagement, working to increase brand awareness, grow audiences and increase sales. As well as managing the Start Up Marketeer social profiles, I also work on a range of client projects. I love my job as it allows me to interact with small businesses on a daily basis, building relationships and supporting them wherever possible. I get a huge buzz from both the creative and analytical sides of social media marketing. There's always more to learn and I am constantly looking for new ways to make social media more accessible to small business owners. As the mummy to two very small children, I spend my free time exploring the South Downs with a pushchair and a bag full of snacks or meeting friends at one of the many family-friendly, independent cafes in my local area.

I’m a writer and editor with a passion for eye-catching, inspiring content that engages audiences and fosters brand loyalty. I specialise in writing blog posts, long-form articles, e-books and SEO-optimised website content, as well as assisting on content strategy and planning. I love working with clients to translate their vision into engaging, exciting and accessible content that converts. I have been freelancing for over 3 years, working with a range of international clients in the Health and Wellness sector, especially focussing on health tech, skincare, sleep and nutrition. My work has appeared in publications such as Observer, Healthline.com, Well and Good and more. I am happiest when I am doing deep-dives into new topics and interviewing thought-leaders and industry experts. I’ve been lucky to call many places home and now divide my time between the UK and Copenhagen, Denmark.

Mum of three, juggling the family’s diaries, freelancing, running a side business and trying to find time on the yoga mat and tennis court, my life is nicely active. I come from an IT background, having worked for charities, the education sector from primary to universities, law firms and other private sectors in IT or Marketing related roles. I enjoy helping SMEs reach their goals by supporting them via website maintenance, analytics, PPC, Google Ads and SEO and am delighted to be a part of Start Up Marketeer in this quest to grow and nurture our clients’ businesses, whatever they may be.

I find my role with Start Up really interesting with lots of variety and I love working with the team. Planning, organisation and attention to detail are key skills required to enable our team to function to their full potential. I enjoy liaising with clients and handling day to day priorities as well as undertaking copywriting tasks such as writing blogs and web content for clients.
Outside of work I am married to Alex and we have two small-ish kids and a bouncy Flatcoated retriever. I love walks in the countryside around where we live, pub lunches and G & Ts!

Oscar has been with the firm since day one and is always on hand to offer a warm welcome (and a wet nose) to our clients. He particularly enjoys lunchtime walks when we do our best brainstorming, and is great at keeping spirits up (and toes cosy) when the workload gets tough.

Stanley is the latest recruit for Start Up Marketeer and is already proving himself to be an invaluable member of the team. Stanley is particularly adept at waste disposal and will clean up any post, crumbs or even your lunchbox in record time. He is always on hand to offer an enthusiastic greeting to visitors.
